The most beautiful fishing spots in the region
130 km of rivers, two bathing lakes, two reservoirs, four natural lakes and a high mountain lake at an altitude of over 2,000 m – all of that and much more is waiting for you around your fly fishing hotel in Austria. The Bräurup waters, Austria’s largest connected fishing grounds, are popular with locals and guests alike due to their location and diversity, and are among the region’s highlights. Find numerous inspiring fishing spots for every taste around our house. We are proud to present some of these in greater detail
The small mountain stream can be accessed particularly easily and features fairly small and medium-sized pools – quiet and charming.
Coming from Hintersee, this approx. 6-12 m wide mountain stream flows directly into the Salzach in Mittersill near the hotel. Traversable on all of its 12 km, you’ll find lots of medium-sized to large pools. It is sometimes difficult to access due to high shore banks, but fish are usually directly by the shore at these spots.
- Krimmler Ache
Find a fly-fishing only area over a length of 15 km with small mountain stream sections above the waterfalls. Below the waterfalls, you’ll come across mixed mountain stream waters with medium-sized and large pools.
Small but exclusive: find clear water only on approx. 700 m². The small spring water lake is a true insiders’ tip.
- Salzach between the bridges in Dorf and Uttendorf
Experienced fishers in particular find what they’re looking for here. The banks by the river with medium to strong current are rather steep and not that easy to access. The fly fishing section, however, is a true experience as a quiet yet spectacular natural site.
Let our guests lead you to these and many other fishing sports around Hotel Bräurup – we have many up-to-date suggestions and will introduce you to other kinds of fishing.
Fly fishing in Mittersill
There are numerous ways to fish. Fly fishing is particularly popular in the Mittersill region. For this method, a particularly light type of bait, the so-called fly, is used. It acts as a throwing bait and thus requires a special technique and appropriate fishing equipment. Find genuine experts in this field at your fly fishing hotel in Austria. We have valuable suggestions and instructions, accompanying literature and a selection of flies at our in-house fishing tackle store for you.
How to become a fly fisher
If you also want to become a fly fishing expert, you’ve come to the right place! As a fly fishing hotel in Austria with the country’s largest connected private fishing grounds, we are experts for all forms of angling. Our services include fish guiding and course guiding of all sorts. We support beginners on their way to becoming fly fishing experts with the “learning by doing” method. Experience the art of this very special discipline during your fishing holiday in Austria from mid-May to October. If you need a rental rod, one is included as part of the guiding (otherwise for a fee). You can purchase your own equipment and bait afterwards at the in-house fishing tackle store once you’ve fallen for fly fishing. Our guides are happy to accompany you beyond our complimentary guiding services to the water and introduce you to a range of special disciplines, such as still-water and mountain stream fishing plus belly boat fishing on request. We recommended reading up on the information on the main flies and taking a look at the fly fishing gallery.
