Cyclists love the diversity of the Salzburger Land. Diverse terrain, wonderful views and lush nature accompany excursions on two wheels. The Tauern Cycle Path is without question one of the most popular tours. For 270 or 310 km it connects Krimml with Passau with a comparatively small difference in altitude. Did you already know that the Tauern Cycle Path runs through Mittersill? Two exciting stages lead through the place.

From Krimml to Mittersill

The starting point of the first stage of the Tauern Cycle Path and thus your bike tour to Mittersill are the Krimml Waterfalls, which you can reach with the bike transport of the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn. In just under three hours, it is largely down a slight slope for 31.6 km to the town square of Mittersill. From the parking lot you first cycle to a Salzach bridge, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the waterfalls. A forest path takes you to the center of the village and further on the new railway cycle path to Neukirchen. The Tauern Cycle Path to Mittersill now takes a short detour via Bramberg and on to the Hollersbacher bathing lake – ideal for a little cooling off in between on warm days. It finally goes along the Salzach to Mittersill.

From Mittersill to Bruck

After a restful night at the Hotel Bräurup, you can tackle the second stage. On the bike path through Mittersill, it first goes to Felben – a stop at the local history museum is always worthwhile. A short ascent leads to Lichtenau Castle and finally further towards Lengdorf, Hummersdorf and Piesendorf. Soon you will see a large substation, which shows the way to Kaprun. Continue on the asphalt path through Filzmoos before the Tauernweg route branches off to Bruck. A 32.5 km route and a good two hours’ drive make for a pleasant day trip. When you get back to Bräurup – either by bike or with the Pinzgauer local train – all kinds of culinary delicacies await you.

The Tauern Cycle Path through Mittersill comprises two of nine stages that continue along the Salzach via Bischofshofen and Golling to Salzburg and finally into Upper Austrian and Bavarian regions.
