Fishing on the Krimmler Ache in Pinzgau

Around Hotel Bräurup, you’ll find Austria’s largest private fishing grounds with countless picturesque spots where you can indulge your passion in peace. We particularly recommend fishing on the Krimmler Ache. The two spots above and below the waterfalls are especially popular with fly fishers. Day passes are available here at the hotel.

About the two fishing spots

On the Krimmler Ache, you’ll find two incredibly pleasant spots for your fishing pleasure – one on the upper, and one on the lower section of this approximately 10 to 20 m wide stream.

  • Upper Ache: The meadow river character with smaller mountain stream sections is ideal for fly fishing in Austria. Here you can travel on foot or by National Park taxi.
  • Lower Ache: The medium and large pools have a typical mountain stream character and are only partially accessible by car. Fly-only and Catch & Release also apply here.

Tips for the Krimmler Ache

Although the Ache can become a little cloudy during heavy rainfall, it usually clears up quickly. In June after the snowmelt, and from early/mid-September until the end of the season around mid-October, you’ll enjoy the best conditions for catching brook char, brown trout, and grayling. We recommend rods of approximately 8-9 feet (line classes 5/6) given the often windy conditions. Glittering nymphs and classic dry flies, as well as brown and black streamers, are ideal for these spots.
