Hiking Trip to Hintersee in Mittersill
Escape from everyday life and immerse yourself in the magic of the national park’s nature: The Mittersill-Hollersbach-Stuhlfelden holiday region is home to fantastic spots and hidden treasures where everyday life seems to take a little break. One of the most beautiful places around our Hotel Bräurup is the Hintersee in Mittersill. The clear lake lies at 1,313 m above sea level and is the starting point for leisurely walks as well as challenging hiking tours.
About the natural jewel Hintersee
This particularly breathtaking lake lies in the Felbertal valley and is picturesquely nestled between steep rock faces. Water has been flowing into the Hintersee for thousands of years via small and large waterfalls; so clear that you can even see to the bottom. The valley basin around it, which was created by a rockfall, is home to numerous meadow and alpine paths to and around the lake. On the northern shore, a themed trail takes you into the diverse nature of this spot and amazes not only children’s eyes with the variety of flora and fauna. With a little luck, you can even spot hares, deer and stags.
Hiking at Hintersee in Mittersill
In addition to the numerous paths on and around the lake, there is also a special tour for which you should bring a little more fitness. In about four hours, the 8.5 km route takes you from Hintersee to Plattachsee and back again, covering almost 900 metres in altitude. From the Hintersee car park, the head of the valley first passes the Schleierfall waterfall, then over the Geißstein summit and towards the St. Pöltner Hütte to this second magical mountain lake. However, you can also turn off beforehand, without taking part in the sometimes challenging Plattachsee circuit, and hike back to the car park via the serpentine, occasionally steep Trudental valley.
