Mountain Biking in Mittersill for Beginners

Located in the heart of the magnificent Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, Mittersill-Hollersbach-Stuhlfelden is a top destination for cyclists, mountain bikers, and e-bikers. With leisurely panoramic trails, alpine ascents, and strenuous mountain tours, there’s something for every taste. The expertly developed network of trails throughout the National Park region now spans over 1,000 km, but where is the best place for beginners to bike? Here are two beginner tips for mountain biking in Mittersill, recommended by the hotel.

From Mittersill to Felbertal

A truly enjoyable tour for the whole family takes about an hour and a half each way through the region. It starts in the center of Mittersill. From here, take the route towards Felbertauern. On the right side of Felbertauernstraße, a partly asphalted, partly gravel path leads to Hintersee. After the Wolfram mine, turn right at the tunnel, then comes a short, intense climb with three switchbacks. Hintersee then opens up before you, including cozy resting spots by the lake. A quick stop at a hut is never a bad idea before heading back to Mittersill the same way.

From Mittersill to Uttendorf

The second option is a bit longer but also more moderate, leading for long stretches along the Tauern Cycle Path. It starts directly at Mittersill’s town square, then passes the golf course and enters the forest area. On the way to Uttendorf, it can get a bit hilly at times, but you can wonderfully relax at the local swimming lake. After a short stop, the return journey continues on the south side of the Salzach Valley with more undulating sections.
