Ski Tour to the Schützkogel in Two Variations

Ascent to the Schützkogel from Jochberg

Perhaps the best-known and slightly longer variant of this ski tour in the Kitzbühel Alps begins directly in Jochberg. At the lift car park, you first descend to the Jochbacher Ache and ascend to the Taxerkapelle before strapping on your skis. Now, the meadows or alpine paths towards Taxenalm need to be tackled. Before the Waldhausalm, a turn eastwards follows, ascending over moderately steep meadows and forest clearings past the Schützalm to the northwest ridge. Another moderately steep ridge now leads southeastwards to the summit cross. On the rather steep western slopes of the Schützalm, an enjoyable descent completes this ski tour to the Schützkogel.

Ascent via the Sintersbachgraben

While the Jochberg variant takes four hours, this tour, starting at the entrance to the Sintersbachgraben, can be completed about half an hour faster. After an initial walk into the gorge, skis are needed on the alpine path. Towards Wildalm, it goes over wide meadows, then various hollows and steep slopes follow on the summer path. After the Luegeggalm, a steep ridge with a similarly tricky further hollow must be overcome before the saddle between the two peaks leads to the summit cross via a cornice. The return journey is on the same route.
