Hike to the Zwölferkogel in Mittersill

Soon the last snow cover will have melted, making way for countless kilometers of hiking in the vast National Park region. Look forward to numerous exciting tours, such as the challenging hike to the Zwölferkogel in Mittersill.

The ideal tour for the alpine summer

Currently, the Zwölferkogel in Mittersill is still covered by a fine layer of snow, but soon one of our local mountains will make way for alpine pasture operations. From June to September, there is lively alpine pasture activity here. Well-marked forest paths run around the meadows and pastures, extending far beyond the tree line into alpine terrain. Due to the special topography and sometimes tricky ascents, good, ankle-high footwear is mandatory for the necessary stability. Some hiking experience, accompanied by sure-footedness and a head for heights, should also be brought along.

From Felben to the mountain

The starting point of the hike to the Zwölferkogel is in the district of Felben. You can park directly at the Felberturm Museum before embarking on this full-day tour (13.3 km long, 1,644 vertical meters, approx. eight hours walking time). Hiking trail 82A runs to the Ehrenfeuchten Alm, then No. 530 leads via Brauäste and Kastner Hütte to the Bräuhochalm. Meanwhile, the hiking excursion increasingly transforms into a demanding but very rewarding mountain tour. The final stage via Birkkogel to the Zwölferkogel is challenging, but you will enjoy fantastic views from the summit region. The return journey is on the same route.
