What Can You Do in the Hohe Tauern National Park?
Our Hotel Bräurup is located in one of the most magnificent and beautiful nature and holiday regions in the country: The Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in Austria and the Alps. It extends over three federal states on the border between Carinthia, (East) Tyrol and the Salzburg region. One of the main national park towns is Mittersill, home to our cozy hotel. There are many opportunities for attractive leisure activities, at any time of the year. What can you do in the Hohe Tauern National Park? A lot, and we would like to introduce you to some of our favorite destinations.
Natural spectacles
Many of the inspiring sights in the Hohe Tauern National Park can be found in the diverse nature of the region. Countless natural places and refuges meet spectacular attractions, which are certainly among the most beautiful places in Austria. You can look forward to, among other things:
- Krimml Waterfalls: Europe’s largest waterfalls spread a fine, soothing water mist that is said to have a positive effect on health. Huge masses of water plunge spectacularly into the depths. A hiking trail opens up the fall stages.
- Krimml Achental: This enchanting alpine pasture landscape separates the Hohe Tauern from the Zillertal Alps. In addition to the Krimml Waterfalls, more than 15 alpine pastures are scattered across the entire valley floor. Here you will find many edifying hiking routes.
- Großglockner High Alpine Road: 36 hairpin bends lead up to 2,571 meters and invite you to take a special kind of excursion. The Großglockner High Alpine Road is not only one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world, it is also the starting point for hikes and is home to exhibitions and viewing platforms.
- Sigmund-Thun Klamm: The gorge in Kaprun fascinates with its roaring masses of water, while the sky sometimes seems to darken due to the towering rocks. In summer, events and light shows accompany the tour.
- Schösswendklamm: Another magnificent gorge awaits you directly in Mittersill with the Hintersee as its highlight. In the valley basin of Hintersee, paths lead over roaring masses of water, to lush alpine pastures and through natural beauties.
